London 2012 Olympic Games

The 27th of July marks the start of the London 2012 Olympic Games and the third time that Britain has hosted the games.

London 2012 is set to be bigger and better than any event before, whilst at the same time being the first games that has been designed to be fully sustainable. Although some specialist facilities like the Velodrome have been newly constructed, where possible temporary venues have been put in place, for example a temporary cross-country course has been designed in Greenwich Park for part of the Eventing competition. After the event this will be removed completely from the park and it will return to being used for a wide range of recreation and leisure activities.

Since the initial bid the Olympic Committee and all those involved have set about getting the whole country involved in this spectacular international event. The Olympic Torch has travelled the length and breadth of the UK visiting towns and cities, and has been held by 8,000 ‘Torch Bearers’ most of them are local to the area and all of them have been nominated by friends, family, and colleagues to represent their community. Now that the Torch has reached London the final stages of its journey means that with only 3 days until the opening ceremony the countdown to the biggest sporting event in the world is really on!
