It may not be 2013 for a couple of days but already the January 2013 edition of the European Rail Timetable is available and includes the first updates to the winter schedules. Additional updates which were not available at the time of the publication of the December 2012 edition are now included, and detail
amongst other changes, the new timetable from Northern Ireland Railways commencing on January 6 and the new high-speed line from
Barcelona
– Figueres opening on January 7.
In addition to the updates to the schedules, the January 2013 edition also includes the annual Sample Fares feature. A fantastic tool for aiding the planning and budgeting for any rail journey, this feature gives you a rough guide to the types of tickets available, and the fares you may expect to pay when travelling to some of the most popular locations in
Europe
.
Along with the regular monthly features, the Beyond Europe section this month focuses on principle rail routes in
India
. Including everything from rail links in
Bangalore
City
to the timetable for the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. This supplement is as detailed as every page in this 500+ page railway bible. The route that caught my eye was the
Delhi
– Mumbai schedule, all 23 hours 35 minutes of it, my only hope was that with only 5 stops on the whole route the seats were made of pillows!
